Over the years, I struggled to find a way to lose weight, but it wasn’t until I was pregnant with my last, and my weight crept up to a whopping 243lb, that I resolved I was going to do something about it.

About six months after my son was born in 2013, I started tackling the weight. It was stressful because I was nursing and couldn’t go under 1600 calories, but I consistently lost about 1 – 2 pounds per week, if I stayed to the plan. My motto became “Don’t give up. If you slip up, forgive yourself and get right back to it!” I slipped up, a lot.

In the past, through every failure, it slowly dawned on me that cutting out entire food groups wasn’t realistic and was a sure-fire way to fail again. So this time, nothing was out of bounds. If I wanted a couple slices of pizza, I had that and just made sure it fit into my calories. Sometimes I went over, and I just subtracted that from the next few days calories (a little from each day).

I came to rely on one app called MyFitnessPal, which made tracking my food super easy, and the bonus was it was absolutely free.

I started walking for about 30 minutes (very rarely an hour) 3 -5 days a week, and I also lifted weights occasionally.

I’ve set a new goal of 44 pounds, which will get me to my goal of 170lb (I’m 5’8″). I plan to keep myself accountable with MyFitnessPal.

Maybe I’ll share my favorite recipes here.
