Over the last year, there’s been a steady decline in our sweet girl’s physical abilities, as well as her mental sharpness. She’s pretty old, a bit over 13 years, so I know this decline is considered “normal”, but I don’t think it needs to be this way. She’s always had bad hips, even as a puppy, but it had gotten to the point where we were needing to carry her up the stairs. The night time prowling, getting into the trash, not responding to her name, etc. were just not like her. She’s the most gentle dog I’ve ever known, and she’s a huge part of our family. We have many amazing family memories that she takes center stage in. Losing her now isn’t an option any of us are ready to accept, so we were super motivated to do something to help her regain at least some of her mobility, while lessening her pain as naturally as possible.

After researching the safety of using Curcumin in this way and speaking with our veterinarian, we order the Curcumin/Turmeric capsules, some vitamin E and some vitamin C. Every other day, we began adding a couple capsules of Turmeric, one capsule of vitamin E and 1/8th of a teaspoon of powdered vitamin C, blended into her food (sometimes with some tuna). As I understand it,  Curcumin is naturally anti-inflammatory, and vitamin E & C are antioxidants, and so minimize (even reverse) damage caused by aging. It is an incredibly powerful mix.

The results were pretty immediate; Within 24 hours she was getting off the floor without such a struggle, the late night wandering has lessened tremendously, and she is getting up the stairs without needing to be carried! I am so thrilled that these supplements have made such a huge difference in so short a time, so I’m sharing with anyone who is looking to improve their own fur baby’s quality of life (without the possible complications inherent with prescribed medications). I hope you have as much success with this as we have.

We ordered the Amazon brand of Turmeric/Curcumin and it has black pepper in it, which increases the effectiveness of it.

Update: We had our girl for 1 more year, using the Turmeric/Curcumin blend. Unfortunately, we lost her suddenly. She became very ill one night, and the next morning we brought her to our vet. She went peacefully under euthanasia, surrounded by her family. We miss her so much!

  1. Hiya! I know this is kinda off topic but I’d figured I’d ask. Would you be interested in trading links or maybe guest writing a blog post or vice-versa? My website addresses a lot of the same subjects as yours and I think we could greatly benefit from each other. If you happen to be interested feel free to shoot me an e-mail. I look forward to hearing from you! Excellent blog by the way!
